China keeps raking in the golds as it dominates Asian Games on home soil in Hangzhou HANGZHOU, China (AP) — Chinese swimmer Wu Shutong took Asian Games gold Friday in the 10-kilometer race, finishing seconds ahead of her competition from Japan in the more-than two-hour race, which she swam just days after her 18th birthday. “I find it a little hard to believe,” she told reporters. Wu spent most of the race behind Japan’s Airi Ebina and her Chinese teammate Sun Jiake, but was able to turn it up a notch near the end as Ebina started to slightly falter.“She didn’t have the strength and couldn’t speed up, so I accelerated to catch up,” Wu said. “I just swam as hard as I could, nothing too tactical.” Wu finished with a time of 2 hours, 3 minutes, 36.4 seconds, only 8.5 seconds ahead of Ebina and 21.5 seconds ahead of Sun. Taiwan’s Teng Yu-Wen was more than four minutes behind in fourth place. Summer Out, Rain, Then Fall In

Summer Out, Rain, Then Fall In While it took a few hours to shake off the dense fog yesterday, it turned out to be another beautiful afternoon with temps in the mid 70s to 80 with abundant sunshine. We don’t have fog as widespread this morning to deal with, but there is some locally dense fog across the Cape and Islands, where a dense fog advisory is in place until 11am. We’ll also take a step down today, with temps in the low to mid 70s in the afternoon. More clouds are in the mix with a few spotty showers likely across the interior. Tonight, low clouds, fog and isolated showers prevail. While tomorrow isn’t an all day rain, there will be a fair amount of shower activity across the area, adding up to 0.25″ – 0.75″ through tomorrow evening. There may be some localized higher totals in the Worcester Hills, but the best chance for 2″+ of rain is across western New England and eastern Maine. We dry out Sunday, and feel the full effects of Fall as temps tumble back into th...

Boston Bruins hope to finish the job this season after record-setting run ended in a playoff flop BOSTON (AP) — The Boston Bruins are looking ahead at a new season, not back at the one where they posted the best record in NHL history and then lost in the first round of the playoffs.“My rear-view mirror is broken,” team president Cam Neely said as the 2023 Presidents Trophy winners opened training camp. “You certainly can learn from the past, and take some things away from that. But the page has turned, and we’ve got a new season coming up.”A year after setting NHL records with 65 wins and 135 points, the Bruins think they are primed for a run at the Stanley Cup. They’d have to do it without captain and six-time Selke Trophy winner Patrice Bergeron, who has retired along with scoring threat David Krejčí“People on the outside might view it as a void (considering) what other people and great players had done in the past,” general manager Don Sweeney said. “That’s evolution that every team goes through. We’re fortunate enough to have players that are really excited a...
