ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Mike Trout is making progress in his recovery from a broken bone in his left hand, but the three-time AL MVP still isn’t close to a return.Trout had the stitches removed this week following surgery to repair his broken hamate bone, the slugger said Friday. His hand is still bruised and scabbed, and it must heal fully before he can resume swinging a bat.Trout has been out since July 3, when he hurt his hand on a swing. He is doing mobility work and throwing, but gripping a bat is more difficult. The Angels projected Trout would be out for six to eight weeks immediately after his injury, and the forecast hasn’t changed significantly, manager Phil Nevin said.Trout, who was elected by fans to start in the All-Star Game for the 10th consecutive season, is batting .263 with 18 homers, 44 RBIs and an .862 OPS this season. He has missed large portions of the past three seasons with injuries, including all three All-Star Games since 2019.Despite Trout’...Explosión de vehículo en Colombia deja al menos dos muertos y cuatro heridos en cercanías de base militar, informa el gobernador de Arauca

Lightning struck a home in Haverhill Friday, burning part of the structure’s top floor while a series of storms rolled through the region. The lightning strike happened on Mahoney Way Friday evening. Inside, the Gosselin family was watching TV together. “The lightning was crazy,” said homeowner Arthur Gosselin. “It was going for like 20 minutes, just constant and then it just hit us.” “It’s a devastating loss,” said family member Paige Gosselin.Emily Gosselin said she heard a loud bang as lightning hit the house. “I didn’t even know our house got struck and then our TV went out,” she said.Arthur said he saw some sparks and ran up to the attic to find it was on fire. The family made it out of the home safely and stood together watching flames tear through part of their home.“It’s our childhood home, everything’s in it and we were home,” Emily said. “Thank God we got out safe but very, very distraught and overwhelming.”Fire crews arrived quickly to fight the flames...Column: Cody Bellinger increases his trade value as the Chicago Cubs and St. Louis Cardinals appear ready for clearance deals

When the 2023 schedule came out last August it looked as if this late-July weekend would be an enticing one at Wrigley Field. The defending National League Central champion St. Louis Cardinals would invade Wrigley for a four-game series against the Chicago Cubs, whose “intelligent spending” plan was supposed to turn them into contenders. As it turned out, the Cardinals have endured a miserable season, spending 80 days in last place, while the Cubs have been below .500 since May 13 and began Friday 8 1/2 games behind the division-leading Milwaukee Brewers.Cardinals president of baseball operations John Mozeliak recently said a sell-off of short-term assets was likely, given their place in the standings. Cubs President Jed Hoyer has remained coy about his intentions at the Aug. 1 trade deadline, though all indications point to a mini sell-off without a post-All-Star break tear. But time is running out, and even after Friday’s 4-3 win over the Cardinals, the Cubs inched ...Latest news
