BP profits are cut in half to $2.6 billion as oil and natural gas prices fall

Published Tue, 04 Mar 2025 03:49:26 GMT

LONDON (AP) — Energy giant BP said Tuesday that it earned nearly $2.6 billion in the second quarter, almost half what it posted in the first three months of the year as oil and natural gas prices that surged after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine have fallen. The company’s underlying replacement cost profit, which excludes one-time items and fluctuations in the value of inventories, was down nearly 70% from the April-to-June period a year ago, when London-based BP brought in $8.45 billion. It’s the latest oil and gas major to see profits fall from record highs last year, following British rival Shell, France’s TotalEnergies and U.S.-based ExxonMobil. Energy prices spiked after Russia launched its war in Ukraine, raising fears about Moscow’s supplies of oil and natural gas before it cut off most of its gas heading to Europe.Energy costs were a major driver of inflation around the world, stirring outcry as households and businesses faced skyrocketing electricit...

Dear Amy: My husband has always had a creative and witty sense of humor, and we have spent many hours in our decade-long marriage laughing until our eyes water. I love the fact that he has the ability to make people laugh.Over the past few years, he has gone from poking fun at me in an actual funny way to him just being creatively mean. One example of his humor: He will pretend he’s limping, dragging his foot behind him and groaning. This started more than two years ago when I was briefly hobbled by a broken foot. Honestly, at this point I don’t think it’s funny.Another example started when we were playing a trivia game with friends. I blanked on the name of one of my favorite actresses, and ever since then he has called me “Movie Buff [followed by a slur used to insult mentally challenged people].”Those and other comments he makes about me feel like an attack on my values and personality, and they persist daily, to the point where our children (all under the age of 10) mirror ...
